Giants QB Daniel Jones brought Big Blue back from the dead on Sunday against the Bucs in Tampa, helping to dig them out of a 28-10 hole before orchestrating a last-minute touchdown drive that turned out to be the difference.
So where does Jones' starting debut rank when it comes to other heralded quarterbacks the Giants drafted?
Phil Simms, No. 7 (1979 NFL Draft)
Simms made his first Giants start in Week 6 on Oct. 7, 1979 against the Bucs at the Meadowlands, but didn't get to throw much.
He went 6-for-12 for 37 yards while not throwing any touchdowns or interceptions, rushing three times for one yard in the Giants' 17-14 win.
Aside from the 1983 season -- when he was injured -- Simms held down the fort as the Giants' starter from 1980 until the end of the 1993 season, when he retired.
Eli Manning, No. 1 (2004 NFL Draft, acquired for Philip Rivers)
Manning took over for Kurt Warner in the middle of the 2004 season, making his first Giants start on Nov. 21 against the Falcons at the Meadowlands.
While Manning had some big moments later in his first season, he struggled in his debut as a starter, completing 17 of 37 passes for 162 yards while throwing one touchdown and two interceptions. He rushed just once for -1 yard in the Giants' 14-10 loss.
Later on in the 2004 season, Manning started to show some of the qualities he put on display both times he led the Giants to last-second Super Bowl wins.
Dave Brown, No. 1 (1992 Supplemental Draft)
The man the Giants hoped would take the reins from Simms, Brown sat and watched for two seasons before making his first start on Sept. 4, 1994 against the Eagles at the Meadowlands.
In what was a 28-23 win for the Giants, Brown completed 10 of 20 passes for 171 yards while throwing one touchdown and one interception. Brown wasn't sacked and rushed five times for a grand total of three yards.
Drafted out of Duke (something that gave Giants fans flashbacks when the team took Jones), Brown turned out to be one of the biggest busts in franchise history, serving as their starter until midway through the 1997 season -- when he was replaced by Danny Kanell.
Daniel Jones, No. 6 (2019 NFL Draft)
The Giants' selection of Jones was met with derision in the days and weeks after it was made, due in part to the unsubstantiated belief of many that he would've been there at No. 17 had the Giants waited.
The Giants didn't wait, and after a preseason where he opened lots of eyes, Jones had a starting debut that was the talk of the NFL.
After taking the reins of the season from Manning with the Giants at 0-2, Jones was spectacular in the Giants' 32-31 comeback win over the Bucs in Tampa, completing 23 of 36 passes for 336 yards while throwing two touchdowns and no interceptions.
While Jones made the biggest impression with his arm, his mobility was also a weapon, as he rushed five times for 33 yards and two touchdowns -- including the eventual game-winner.
