James Dolan has apparently had enough of Steve Mills.
The Knicks fired the team president on Tuesday, The Post’s Marc Berman confirmed, amid another brutal season in which the Knicks are 15-36. Mills joined the Knicks as general manager in 2013 and took over as president when Phil Jackson was fired after the 2017 season.
General manager Scott Perry will take over basketball operations. He and Mills had not been seeing eye-to-eye recently. Only Perry made the trip to Cleveland to witness the Knicks’ overtime victory over the Cavaliers, their second straight win.
The Post has previously reported that the Knicks would be interested in Raptors team president Masai Ujiri. ESPN says that is now owner James Dolan’s goal, though Ujiri is under contract through next season.
The decision to axe Mills comes six days after “Sell the team” chants focused on Dolan at The Garden and two days before the NBA trade deadline. The calls from fans came after a player’s brawl, started by Elfrid Payton shoving Jae Crowder, during a Knicks’ blowout loss to the Grizzlies.
The Knicks have decisions to make on the future of Marcus Morris, who is coveted around the league, and also have interest in acquiring D’Angelo Russell from the Warriors.
Earlier this season, the Knicks fired head coach David Fizdale and installed Mike Miller as interim coach.
