The reputation of Yankees fans this postseason only gets worse.
One fan reportedly was ejected from the Stadium before Game 4 of the ALCS after taunting Astros starter Zack Greinke over his battles with depression and social anxiety disorder, which the 35-year-old Greinke was diagnosed with in 2006.
The man was escorted out by police as Greinke warmed up in the bullpen, according to NJ.com.
Greinke said he didn’t hear anything before he held the Yankees to one run in 4 ⅓ innings as the Astros won 8-3 to take a 3-1 lead in the series going into Game 5 Friday night in The Bronx.
The episode comes after Yankees fans have been called out by opposing players this postseason.
Twins reliever Tyler Duffey said Yankee fans showered him in beer and “a lot of expletives” during the ALDS, and Houston outfielder Josh Reddick said others threw objects onto the field in Game 3.
That led Astros manager A.J. Hinch to warn that he’d pull his players off the field if that happened again in Game 4, which it did not. The Yankees also warned their fans ahead of the game.
“They definitely are harsh here in this ballpark,” Reddick told reporters of the fan being ejected on Thursday. “They support their team as loud as they can. They’re going to show up.”
As for the fan’s jeers, Reddick would rather let Houston’s play do the talking.
“I think winning three straight in their park is going to make a bigger statement than that,” Reddick said.
