Either Rays right fielder Avisail Garcia wants no problem with starting pitcher CC Sabathia or — somehow — he actually doesn’t have one, despite the back-and-forth that caused both teams benches to clear in the Yankees’ 8-3 win last night.

Garcia told reporters that though the two yelled at each other following his strikeout that ended the sixth inning, everything was cool.

“I don’t know what was happening,” Garcia said, according to a report from Newsday’s Kenny DeJohn. “I don’t know.”

Former Yankees catcher and current Atlanta Brave Brian McCann recalled a story about playing in New York with Ichiro Suzuki.

Garcia also said he “doesn’t like problems” and added that the jawing was “part of the game.”

“I respect everybody,” he said. “I didn’t say anything. So let’s keep I like that.”

Garcia and Sabathia barked at each other while they were leaving the field.

Garcia appeared to say something while at the plate, though it was unclear if it was directed at Sabathia. Either way, the 39-year-old lefty fired back, seeming to yell, “If I’m talking to you, I’ll talk to you.”

Still at the plate, Garcia seemed confused, but continued yelling back at Sabathia, at one point raising his arms.

Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius got in front of Sabathia as he walked a bit toward Garcia. Eventually, Gregorius had to restrain Sabathia in full.

Yet, Garcia said it was no biggie.

“It was for no reason,” he said. “When I face him again, I’ll try to do my job and he’ll try to do his job. No problem at all.”

Tensions between the Rays and Sabathia have been high for a while.

Sabathia threw at a Rays hitter last year after a Tampa Bay pitcher threw near the head of backup catcher Austin Romine. The move earned Sabathia a five-game suspension to start the year.
